INTAMAP Web Processing Service
The INTAMAP project has been a pioneering user of the OGC Web Processing Service standard, which was published as a standard during the first year of the project. Using the 52N implmentation of the WPS standard, we have developed a simple, but flexible interface which allows observations, encoded as Observations and Measurements (O&M) documents to be submitted for interpolation. The Java API help users build such observation collections from comma separated value files (and other formats) which can then be easily sent to the WPS. The interpolation results are returned using UncertML, and developing standard created within the INTAMAP project. This allows user to explicitly represent their uncertainty in any XML document. In the INTAMAP WPS the interpolation results are returned with reliable uncertainty estimates, and the user can request for example the probability of exceeding a given threshold, or specific quantiles of a distribution, as well as the more typical mean and variance estimates.
The INTAMAP WPS is further described in: Pebesma, E., Cornford, D., Dubois, G., Heuvelink, G., Hristopoulos, D., Pilz, J., Stoehlker, U. and Skoien, J., 2009. INTAMAP: an interoperable automated interpolation web service. StatGIS2009, 16-18 June 2009, Milos, Greece.
