INTAMAP Clients
Mobile device client
As part of the INTAMAP project we have built a client designed for use on low power devices. This uses a specially cut down set of schema to minimise bandwidth and resource usage, using so a so called 'simpleInterpolate' WPS based web service. The mobile client is ideally deployed on a Java enabled mobile phone or PDA, and can take advantage of the GPS device if available. The client can be used to collect observations, or add them to existing data sources, retrieved from a simplified Sensor Observation Service. Mapping is provided by the OpenStreetMap project, and users can interpolate complex data sets on their phones using a simple interface.
Download and Installation
The latest version of the JAR file (mobileclient-x.x.jar) should be downloaded here. A JAD file is also available if required. After the JAR file has been downloaded from the above link it needs to be transfered to the device. The installation procedure will begin upon opening the file which varies between devices. After installation is complete, the application can be run from the device's default applications folder.
Usage instructions are available on the GoogleCode project wiki.
Further Information
Developer documentation and source code is available on Google Code.
The client is further described in: Williams, M., Cornford, D., Bastin, L., Jones, R. and Parker, S., 2009. Automatic processing, quality assurance and serving of real-time weather data over lightweight protocols. StatGIS2009, 16-18 June 2009, Milos, Greece.
